Title |
e-Transformation Scheme for
the Travel Industry |

Summary |
The travel industry is one of
the key sectors in Hong Kongˇ¦s economy, and plays
a critical role in Hong Kongˇ¦s economic recovery.
Dominated by small and medium enterprises (SMEs),
the adoption of information technology (IT) and
electronic commerce (e-commerce) have been relatively
low, due to various factors including uncertain
economic conditions, unwillingness by SMEs to adopt
technology, lack of sector-wise standards, etc.A
general assessment of the current level of IT usage
in the travel industry sector would reveal a low
adoption of IT, PC usage and e-commerce in a number
of critical communications and transaction paths
in the industry, being between:
- TICHK and travel agencies under its regulation
- Travel agents and their business partners (e.g.
suppliers and delivery agents)
- Travel agents and consumers
In cooperation with the Travel Industry Council
of Hong Kong (TICHK), the Hong Kong Information
Technology Federation (HKITF) proposes to conduct
the some activities to escalate the use of IT and
e-commerce in the travel industry. |
